This post was written by an R U OK? supporter living with a complex mental health condition. Here's why they're sharing their story:
"Words will never truly express how blessed and thankful I am to those who have supported, listened and stood by me as I’ve experienced and received treatment for my psychological condition.
After ten years of counselling and psychiatric treatment, I still very much experience being highly dissociated, severely depressed and/or anxious. Although this is so, today, I view these times as normal for me and try to at
least remember such moments will pass.
I see that minimal light has been shed upon this mental health problem and there is a need for greater awareness and support for conditions that have dissociative symptoms. I hope this reflection of my own experience will provide one comfort and encourage greater personal understanding. Therapy and medication has certainly been powerful in assisting myself manage and function with day-to-day life. If you find this relatable in some way, I hope you too will find the most beneficial way to manage and work towards recovery."
