Year 7 and 8 students across Australia are invited to enter the R U OK? National Student Art Competition.
We’re accepting submissions that respond to the question: What does an R U OK? conversation mean to you?
Students are encouraged to respond to the brief in any way they like. It could:
The artwork must be a drawing, painting, or mixed media work, made from any traditional media including pastels, oil pastels, pen, pencil, charcoal, acrylic, watercolour, oils, mixed media, collage, or other materials.
Photographs and digital artworks will also be accepted (but the use of AI is not allowed).
Videos and three-dimensional sculptures will not be accepted.
To be eligible to enter this competition, schools must select artworks created by individual students who are:
Participating schools will be asked to submit a maximum of two (2) individual student art pieces. Group entries are not permitted. It will be the responsibility of the school to choose the two individual art pieces for submission. An idea to get the whole class involved is that everyone create an artwork and the students and/or teachers vote to decide which artworks get submitted.
Schools will only be able to submit one artwork at a time (so if you are submitting two artworks you will need to complete the form twice).
Five major prize winners (‘Creative Legends’) will receive a trip to Sydney to attend the prize-giving event at the Art Gallery of NSW on 5 September 2024. This exciting event will include the opportunity to connect with other Creative Legends, hear from our special guests and undertake a private tour of the Archibald Prize Exhibition.
The prize includes the cost of flights and accommodation for the student and their parent or guardian.
The five Creative Legends will be selected from the 16 finalists (2 from each Australian state and territory) who will receive a certificate and a prize pack containing art supplied (donated by ACCO Brands) and R U OK? goodies.
