R U OK? HOLIDAY CAMPAIGN SHARE KIT
R U OK? have produced free tips and practical tools to increase peer support during the holiday season. ‘Tis the season to be asking R U OK? encourages all of us to meaningfully connect with those in our world who may be struggling.
Why the holiday period?
The holiday season is a celebratory time for many Australians, but for some it can also be a time of additional financial and emotional pressure.
Two thirds (66%) of respondents to the Salvation Army Christmas Research Report(1) described the time of year as stressful, lonely, and sad. Financial pressure was a key challenge, while 29% reported feelings of disconnection from family, friends, and their community.
Research from Red Cross Australia(2) echoed these findings with one in three (31%) Australians often feeling lonely around the festive season.
The R U OK? holiday campaign seeks to remind all Australians of the various struggles that people in their world might be experiencing, but most importantly the role that they can play in supporting them through this time. By taking the time to ask, ‘are you OK?’ with genuine interest and concern, we can help those who might be struggling feel heard, supported and better about managing their situation(3).
